Want to play a Seventen? Hop on over to our related article, So You Want To Be A Seventen.

The Seventen are the elite guard of the galdori government. They are stationed in Vienda but patrol the country, keeping order among the humans, wicks and passives and asserting galdor control. Currently, they are led by Hanz Morde.

Members are easily spotted from their uniform, which is green and black. See Fashion. The Seventen are issued chroven as mounts. The tall, hulking silhouette of a member of the Seventen is instantly recognisable, and almost universally feared and respected.

Nature of the Organization

The Seventen, while widely regarded as an oppressive police force by the humans and wicks, are primarily a peacekeeping force in Vienda and other cities and towns. Though they are granted lots of power by the government, their power is kept in check by a strict code of conduct and honor. Their purpose is to prevent rebellion among the humans, and, in more prosperous times, they struggled to keep human crime in check and safeguard the civilian population. Their aims, even today, are to keep the peace and protect as many galdori and human citizens as possible.

In recent years, the Seventen have been increasingly militarized, with greater numbers being recruited and greater force being utilized. The aim nowadays seems to be to preemptively put down any human rebellion before it begins, and this involves punishing those who are not proven guilty and sometimes extracting information out of unwilling informants.

Although they are not technically part of Anaxas' extensive armed forces, the Seventen can be called out in the case of national crises or natural disasters to keep the population in check and put down any fights. Some Seventen are sent abroad for foreign affairs or to accompany ambassadors. Seventen are also employed as personal bodyguards for the King, Queen and other high-ranking officials.

Seventen Training

The training for the Seventen, traditionally, was a period of seven years, but with the recent hyper-recruitment policy the Seventen is increasingly hiring new recruits directly out of Brunnhold and putting them through an expedited six-month training period. To make matters more unstable, large portions of the training period is, with alarming frequency, waived for exceptional candidates, meaning that the bevvy of new recruits often lack the foresight and ethical training of the older Seventen. The training involves physical and magical tests and psychological screening; the Seventen are taught to ignore fear and pain, to sense fields from far away, and to use many different weapons.

There is a general Seventen headquarters in Vienda, but the actual training facility is located outside of the town of Numbrey, on the coast of Anaxas. This is a very remote and sparsely populated area and the Seventen can practice their magic without worrying about hurting any of the civilian populations.

History

The group was established to protect the first galdori King and Queen after the siege of Vienda, during the War of the Book. Originally, there were seventy members, giving rise to the term "The Seven Ten." Today there are many hundreds of members, deployed in cities and towns all over Anaxas as well as abroad.

Ranks

The Seventen have seven ranks. Each rank is shown by the number of circular pins worn parallel to the Monite sash, called "snaps." It is customary and expected to refer to any superior officer as "sir," regardless of their gender, or to refer to their rank.

  • Commander of the Seventen - Hanz Morde - seven snaps
  • Captains of the Guard (one for each regiment) - six snaps
  • Inspector - high-level operative in charge of investigation - five snaps
  • Sergeant - the fourth level; four snaps
  • Constable - the third level; three snaps
  • Ensign - the second level; two snaps
  • Recruit - a new member of the Seventen; one snap

Other Branches

Technically, the Cadre is not a branch of the Seventen; they are an top-secret intelligence organization, but they often work closely with the Seventen. Recently, a task force made up of Seventen officers and Cadre operatives was formed. Calling themselves the Oculus, this group exists to understand, infiltrate and destroy the resistance.

There is a branch of the Seventen who operate exclusively in Brunnhold. Due to a slight difference in their uniform (namely, a higher collar) they are sometimes referred to as Collies by other Seventen.
