One Sun Party

It is fitting that the youngest party in Thul'Ka is also its most idealistic. The One-Sun party formed early in the aftermath of the most recent pirate wars when it was observed that rich and poor, galdor, wick, and human alike all suffered together from the economic disruption the conflict left in its wake. No supposed inherent virtue spared people the ravages of war and many took this as a sign that there was more unity and similarity between peoples than was widely thought. This growing sense of unity in the face of disaster was capitalized by a small group of radical progressive politicians who used it as a means of securing Assembly seats by harnessing an unlikely coalition of young idealistic galdori, upwardly mobile humans, and the poorest of the poor. Naming themselves the One-Sun Party, these radical progressives pushed for a variety of reforms including the dissolution of the laws which weight voting in favor of the galdori, the abolition of the special rights of patricians, and the creation of a city-wide system of public education. That the One-Sun has not yet been successful in bringing these reforms about does not seem to dampen the spirits of their supporters, who believe that with time, more and more citizens will come around to the justice of the One-Sun’s views.

There is some evidence that this view of the appeal of the policies is true. Each election cycle, the One-Sun party has increased the number of seats it commands and there seems to be no stopping them from continuing. The are particularly popular in parts of Hluun and Seven Lanterns where students and other idealists tend to dwell in great numbers and in the Gripe, Carptown, and other areas of the city where humans make up most of the population. This makes the One-Sun both a natural enemy and potential ally for any number of factions within the city, for their areas of interest overlap in some manner with the Bull Elephants, the Crocus, and the Pipefitters.

Current Politics

The One-Sun is regarded as the most liberal and progressive party in the city, to the point of being derided as utopians and dreamers. They generally take these criticisms with a laugh and return that at least they can see a better and brighter future for the city, free of prejudice and arbitrary distinction. In these days of revolution, some view the positions of the One-Sun as dangerous in the extreme, inviting discord and chaos into Thul'Ka. Others see them as perhaps the one route to avoid the disaster that is unfolding in Anaxas. Only time will tell who is correct.
