The Menagerie

Something between a zoo and a breeding area for the albino fauna of Gior, The Menagerie is a large multi segmented cavern that houses both the homes for captive creatures and the scientific facilities used for breeding.
As a public space, The Menagerie has no entry fee. Anyone may visit.
Zoo
Exotic animals, as well as domestic ones, are on display at the Menagerie, housed in beautifully carved homes that are sectioned off by thick tempered glass panels, regardless of the level of danger. The are housed in pens with male and female stock, to encourage natural breeding. Carved pools with glass viewing areas house aquatic animals, whilst the glass aviary, houses various species of birds and bugs.
Breeding Program
Wild stock with pale colors or albino traits are captured and brought to the breeding facilities of The Menagerie, where galdori scientists use a combination of natural biology and magic to encourage the albino or white colored genes in creatures. Eventually, stock is slowly released back into a separate externally located wildlife sanctuary on the outside of the city, where the pale creatures are able to spread the genes into the local wildlife. This has encouraged a bloom of albinism and pale colored animals in the Qrieth and Gioran countryside. If you find an albino animal outside of Gior, you can almost be guaranteed it has come from the experiments in The Menagerie.
Domestic animals are very easily bred for albinism, which does lead to other problems including poor eyesight, deafness, cancers and joint issues. This however does not stop the program.
At present, the Gioran scientists are trying to locate and breed some of the more rare and elusive wildlife of the region, including chroves and kluw.
