Temple Of Qrieth

From ThornsWiki

Aminarks original home and first great feat of monic strength, and whilst some Giorans will make a pilgrimage to praise Imaan within its walls, the temple is not actually a place of religious worship, but instead a sanctuary of magic learning and enlightenment. Built up from the amphitheater, one must climb the marbled quartz stairs to reach the temple. The entrance is closed off by beautifully delicate golden gates, which can only be opened by the temple guards after a strict set of rules are signed. Breaking any of these rules can result in arrest or worse.

Making it past the gates, one is met by a wide circular room, with a gold and quartz marbled polished floor and an open view of Gior’s countryside from nearly the summit of the mountain. Sheer white drapes shield the sensitive eyes and skin of the albino people, and commanding the center of the room is a doorway that leads to a huge fountain covered in intricate carvings that depict what some theorize is a battle from the War of the Book. The Waters Of Imaan feed this fountain, and when the sun sets they glow a soft blue, filled with the tiny bio-luminescent creatures that make the waters so special. To the left is another wrought gold gate, in which only members of the Da Huane family may enter. This leads to their private living area.

Most notably the highlight of the temple is its collection of prodigium. Seated in shallow carved shelves in the pillars around the circular room are hundreds of smooth rocks, each carved with a singular monite symbol. Every single word of monite is contained in these rocks, created from the very rubble that was left behind in Aminarks wake. Eons old, born from the mountain itself, these stones are said to amplify and contain casting to avoid runoff. During the daily magic lessons, these prodigium are used by beginners and experts alike.

Magic Lessons

All galdori in Gior are tested in the Temple to confirm if they are passive or not, and those who pass their tenth year testing immediately attend daily lessons in mona and casting at the temple, five days a week. Due to the scale system in Anaxas, the testing is graded on a decimal scale of 0 to 10 to ensure accurate representation if a student transfers to another countries school.

The classes are staggered throughout the course of the thirty hour day, with beginners from morning to midday, intermediate from midday to afternoon and advanced from afternoon to late evening. Classes are focused on Physical conversation, however those wishing to specialise in another discipline can do so. This is managed by the vast size of the temple, allowing many classes at once.

Prodigium

Sacred to the galdori of Gior, these stones are made from the rubble left behind in Aminark's wake. Carved with a single word of monite, these rocks have been polished with the hands of thousands of studying galdori. If you take a stone, it must be returned to its resting place, lest you fancy time in jail. The stones feel warm, even in the depths of the city, and its rumored that they intensify ones casting.
