Sexual Content Policy

Sexual content is permitted as part of a storyline, not as gratuitous self-gratification. If your only purpose on this game is to get involved in adult RP, or if your adult RP borders on the pornographic with little literary merit, this is just not the game for you.

If your roleplay scene includes sexual content, we ask that you please add [Mature] to the title so that other players may be warned that if they continue reading that particular story, there will be sexual content of a graphic nature described.

If your mature content moves from an acceptable R-rating in content flavor and into more NC-17 in descriptiveness, please make sure that your thread is moved to the Mature+ subforum. All players must request their character or writer accounts be opted into the Mature+ User Group to obtain posting and reading rights to this forum. Any threads deemed Mature+ by moderators may be subject to being moved to the proper forum with notification.

Underage Issues

Underage players are not permitted to engage in adult roleplay. This rule has no exceptions. Thorns: Uprising is an 18+ forum, and underage players will be asked to leave the game until they are 18, regardless of what kind of role-play they are hoping to engage in.

In the game world, teenagers are generally thought of as adults; therefore, stories might involve situations in which teenage characters have sexual encounters. All underage characters (under age 18) must use Fade to Black (or an alternate method) rather than description, regardless of the age of the players involved. There cannot be any description of sexual acts concerning minors.

What Counts as Acceptable Sexual Content?

Sexual content is any explicit description of sexual activities beyond kissing. And by explicit, we mean describing specific actions. At this point in the action, please make sure to tag your thread with [Mature] in the title and use appropriate Content/Trigger Warnings if necessary. If the mods feel your content is too adult-themed and you have not tagged your thread appropriately, they will edit the thread title for you and possibly give you a warning. If your thread moves beyond what we may consider an R-Rating in terms of sexual content and into an NC-17 rating, it must be moved to the Mature+ Subforum. If you need access to this forum for your character account and/or if you need a thread moved, please don't hesitate to ask a moderator! We're here for you!

It is acceptable to make reference to sexual scenarios, use expletives, and describe sexual emotions as we are a site that only allows players 18+. That said, our writers are allowed to play characters of any age, and we ask that characters younger than 18 in-game are involved in mature situations of sexual or otherwise explicit nature in order to comply with the rules.

The purpose of allowing erotic themes is to avoid stifling the natural flow of a story. The difference between erotica and pornography is subjective in nature, and in the end, the moderators will make that call.

The use of the Mature+ forum is not to punish players who want to explore their own narrative limitations so much as to create a welcoming community for potential new players and visitors who may not be prepared for such content, whether sexual or violent or otherwise disturbing in nature. This is an effort to keep the Recent Posts and Active Topic areas as easy and comfortable to read as possible for a wider audience, regardless of how we're very comfortable in our 18+, 3/3/3 rating.

To reiterate a common point made in the Player Info section of this wiki, the purpose of this game is literary growth and exploration. We encourage you to keep an open mind, and if you do not like the content in Mature threads please simply do not read them.

Fade to Black

"Fade to black" is a common roleplay workaround for sexual content. It can be applied whenever players are uncomfortable roleplaying sexual scenes, so please make sure you check with your writing partner directly as well as read their Writer Profile in order to properly work out consent and permission. There is absolutely nothing narratively wrong with the artful use of Fade to Black on a forum that allows sexual content, so please enjoy collaborating with respect to everyone's comfort level!

Etiquette

Never attempt to engage another player in an IC sexual situation unless you know their level of comfort with that content (please read the Writer Profile of your thread partner and contact them on Discord or in a PM to receive consent and work out your thread direction before springing such subject matter on someone!). Make sure, also, that the other player is willing to go through with the scene before you start it.

Please be conscious of your OOC interactions with all players, and your responsibility to them as part of a community.
