The Fast of Akarra Haia takes place in the third week of Vortas. All those who are able to survive a fast do so for eight days (with 1-day breaks every four days). The days are spent in consideration of need and appreciation for that which they have. On the last day, all the tribes and families use resources saved during the fast and create a feast. All are welcome at the feast, even those that were unable to fast. Despite the quantity of food used for the feast, it is rarely more than what was conserved during the week, thus conserving resources. The idea is to engender appreciation for your tribe's bounty and compassion for those who do not have even necessities, and to conserve resources for the future (and for Ku Ossa!).
