The Judge of Muffey

A comic opera involving a galdori Judge's daughter falling in love with the son of the judge's hated rival. When the son sends his letter of intent, the judge forbids his daughter from marrying him. All seems lost, until it is revealed that the young man is really the long-lost son of the judge's second wife, from her first marriage. The opera is ridiculously complicated and far-fetched, but Fruvini's word-play and political satire have made it a classic, and it is still performed to this day.

The Lady of Sielan

A comic opera about airship captain Guasparre Raffaele, who falls in love with the eponymous Lady of Sielan and finds himself needing to choose between his duty to the Gen’darame Bund Di Bastia and his newfound love (although he is ultimately able to comfortably achieve both). The Lady of Sielan is considered relatively light entertainment, but has a number of catchy melodies, and a famous dance scene in the third act representing an (entirely fictitious) border skirmish between Bastia and Gior. It is said to have been created at the behest of the current King of Bastia, who wished for a musical to improve the patriotism.

Act 1, Final Scene, Raffaele: "Till now the skies were my love Hurte’s beauty I did praise Thus heart and duty both satisfied Oh! For such simple days She has moves me like a current I struggle to keep my feet Had yet I ever lived Fore my Lady of Sielan? In all the ports in all the kingdoms, Beauties have offered me their hands; Not concords nor jewels, nor broken hearts Have parted me from Hurte’s skies. But o, Gianis! She has moved me; I struggle to keep my feet! Had yet I ever lived Fore my Lady of Sielan?"
