Maltalaan is an annual week-long festival that celebrates Hulali and the Ocean. It is celebrated by all of Mugroba, especially traders and wicks, who travel on the rivers. Pirates and sea captains from all over Vita celebrate this festival, often traveling to Mugroba to be part of the ceremony.

After a ritual invocation of Hulali, Mugrobi men and women throw offerings of food, spice and precious stones into the river or the sea. This celebration always attracts plunderers who dive to retrieve the stones, and an unofficial tradition is to toss rocks at the divers after the celebration.

Malataan is also a time of gift-giving for Mugroba. Hulali, being the Ocean, represents boundless generosity, and Mugrobi people give gifts to loved ones and even strangers in order to emulate this. Traditionally, no sea warfare may take place during Maltalaan. River and sea-based trade is generally halted during this period, at least in Mugroba.
