Bastia’s Armed Forces, the Gen’darame Bund Di Bastia are, in practice, inactive. Their most important duties at the moment are the defense of Bastia’s palace. There are two remaining regiments, one which patrols the border with Gior (due to historical precedent) and one which is stationed in Hesse. They maintain a large standing fleet of airships, although they are slowly becoming outdated, and the government has been reluctant to invest additional funds in replacing them.

In practice, the army’s foot soldiers are mostly human. The leadership is entirely galdori, and promising students are periodically recruited from Anastou to train as pilots for the armed forces, and paid to be kept in reserve. Only men have traditionally served in the Bastian Armed Forces, although in 2714, a small contingent of female airship pilots was formed experimentally.
