Appearance

Sy’rien is Hessean, and 5’9” in height. He is slender, although not scrawny, and has a runner’s build, with long, lean muscle. He has the wavy dark hair, tawny skin and strong features common to many of his countryman, with sharp yellow eyes. Sy’rien is always careful and meticulous in his grooming; he styles his hair and beard daily with pomade, and, when not dressed for the hospital, can be found in impeccably tailored suits. His nails are always trimmed, clean and well-maintained, and he has been known to have his valet come and shave him at the hospital to keep his beard neat.

Personality

Sy’rien is known for being a brilliant and adventurous surgeon. Although still young for a galdor, he is sharply ambitious, and quickly became one of the leading physicians of Vienda for the treatment of bone and joint disorders.

Outside of work, he has a reputation as a playboy; he is well-known in the Vienda party scene, moving in relatively high social circles. He is resentful of the treatment he received at the hands of his family, and feels a burning desire to distinguish himself in his career and his wealth; despite presenting himself as an empathetic doctor, he feels very little for others, and does not hesitate to use them to his own ends. He has a wicked cruel streak, and almost never feels guilt or remorse, although he is skilled at feigning both.

History

Sy’rien Palevi was born in Hesse, one of twin boys born to a prominent Hessean mining family. His brother, born first, was the heir presumptive of the family, and showered with attention all his life, attention that Sy’rien always felt should have gone to him. From a young age, he believed himself smarter and more capable than his brother, and was furious that his family’s ways meant he would always be second-best.

When it came time for the two of them to attend school, Sy’rien’s brother was kept in Hesse. To avoid the two boys being a target at the same time, Sy’rien was sent away to Brunnhold. He begged and pleaded to stay in Hesse – Sy’rien had always decided that he would study Living Conversation, and wanted badly to be at one of the top universities in Hesse – but his parents ignored his pleas, and he was sent to Brunnhold. Over the course of his school years, Sy’rien distanced himself further and further from his family, focusing on his studies and his friends.

A traumatic series of incidents in his sixth year left him with a sprained ankle and a broken leg; although Sy’rien needed considerable treatment to recover, these incidents also led him to focus on bone and joint disorders, specializing in both quantitative diagnosis and living treatment. He spent several term breaks at the Vienda hospital, shadowing prominent surgeons and physicians there, and had an offer of employment at the hospital even before he graduated. Sy’rien’s family ordered him to come back to Hesse; he refused, cut ties with them, and settled himself in Vienda instead.

It was at Brunnhold that Sy’rien met Diaxio Shiuni; they were not especially close during their school days, but met again in Vienda after graduation, when Sy’rien got a little in over his head at a party. Diaxio offered him a way out, in exchange for a few small favors.

Sy’rien rose to the occasion, paid off his debt, and kept working, finding opportunities to carefully over-prescribe opiods. He is always very careful, and never does anything that can clearly be called wrong-doing, but nevertheless has been able to secure a number of high-priority clients for the secret drug ring of Vienda, and is handsomely rewarded for his efforts. The money he makes on the side allows him to finance a wealthy lifestyle without the support of his family, although he lets it be believed that they fund many of his more dramatic indulgences.

Currently

Sy’rien Palevi works as a surgeon specializing in bone and joint issues at the Grand Mercy Hospital in Vienda. He focuses generally on galdori patients, although sometimes treats humans and wicks, particularly to test new or experimental procedures. He parties hard at night and on the weekends, and maintains strong, if secret, ties to the drug ring of Vienda, providing them with new clients through his work.
