Postal Service

The Post is run by the government, but it is largely staffed by humans. There is a ground mail service that extends throughout the city and to surrounding towns; air mail, by aeroship, is common for long-distance communication, but is considerably more expensive. Ground mail is slow-moving, but cheaper; it typically takes a full two days for a letter to arrive from Vienda to Brunnhold.

Most galdori send their messages with their servants when not using a seerstone to communicate, but in the rare event that they can't reach someone by the normal methods, they will send letters by government post. There are a few private companies that perform this service with galdori in mind, and they usually offer faster and safer service as well as insurance for packages.

There are some individuals who go into private business as couriers or messengers. This is a more expensive way to send a message within the same town or city, but given the availability of a trusted messenger it can be the most secure. People who are in charge of businesses (or are very rich) tend to have private messengers.

Undertaking

Death among the galdori is almost always handled by the Everine (see Funerals), and undertaking is a service that local churches typically provide free of charge.

However, humans have no such privilege, and have a choice to make when it comes to a death in the family. There are for-profit undertakers in the city who will transport the body to a nearby phasmonia and say prayers over the body. Humans who cannot afford this service are often forced to bury their bodies in graveyards, either by themselves or by the undertaker. Graveyards are considered less secure for ghosts and are a last resort for most families.
