Imaans Caverns

From ThornsWiki

Imaans Carverns is in fact one huge open rooved cavern designed to be a place of recreation and farming. Fed by The Waters of Imaan and filled with beautiful bio luminescent lit, nutrient rich pools that nourish the unique flora of the city, the Carverns are a key source of agricultural advancement for the people of Gior.

In the ceiling of the carvern is a rather large carved opening, that lets in rain and sunlight. This opening is an integral part of the areas ability to grow any produce at all.

The cavern is divided into three levels:

  • Lower - Plantations
  • Middle - Farming
  • Upper - Recreation

Plantations

At the very bottom of the caverns is the ground of the area, a huge flat expanse of soil covered stone with a deep central pool that is fed and drained by an irrigation pipe that runs from the Waters of Imaan.

Due to the impressive size, rich ground soil and access to light, this area lends itself to plantations of crops to support the produce of the city. Violet, hops, wheat and tobacco are some of the crops growing on the ground level. These are tended to by workers hired by the specific plantation owners.

Farming

The farming level is more of a ring then it is a level, spanning around the entire circumference of the cavern. The farms here are not like standard ground level farms, instead, they are made of a variety of shallow pools or moist fields that grow various algae and lichen. Some stout cave ferns, fruit bushes and herbs also take to the shallow soil that is brought in, along with a decent growth of various brassica. The farms are tended to by farm owners and/or the staff they hire.

Recreation

At the upper level of the cavern is the beautiful but simply named Garden, in which various creeping plants and flowers are grown in the circular ring that creates the area. Stone seating and tables are carved right into the floor and walls, and a vast grass only area is tended to regularly for guests who wish to lay in the sun as it filters into the cavern. Most famously grown here are Imaan's Breath blossoms, a stunningly gorgeous white flowering breed of succulent that is waxy in appearance with a long trumpet type shape and a gentle blue glow that it has absorbed from the bio luminescent microbes that are absorbed from its water source. The smell sweet and floral, and can survive for weeks at a time without water.
